Day One – 2026 Hobie 14 Open & Women’s North American Championship

Hosted by Fort Walton Yacht Club – Fort Walton Beach, Florida, the 2026 Hobie 14 Open & Women’s North American Championship kicked off with strong competition as top Hobie 14 sailors from North America, Europe, and Australia gathered for four days of high-energy, one-design racing on the emerald waters of Choctawhatchee Bay.

The Fort Walton Yacht Club (FWYC) provided an ideal venue, delivering world-class regatta conditions and warm Southern hospitality.

In the Open division, Bob Curry took the early lead, edging out Herb James and Michael McNeir in a highly competitive fleet of the nation’s top sailors. Thorin Zeilmaker (Europe) held steady in 5th place at the end of the day.

In the Women’s division, Amiee Modic led the way, followed by Dafna Brown in second and Laura Barron in third.
Idyllic sailing conditions today with winds between 10 -18 mph predominantly from the west-southwest. The forecasted winds for Tuesday, June 16 are expected to be West-Southwest to Southwest with temperatures in the low 80s°F.
