Day 4
The racing has now begun in the final series for the 2025 Hobie 16 North American Championships.
After three days of shifty winds the pattern changed, day 4 and the first day of the final series, started out with strong winds and lively sea state but the wind was fading throughout the day. Four races were completed starting out with winds of 22 knots with some significant waves. The wind slowly faded throughout the day, but most would describe the first three races as breezy. By the fourth race the wind had dropped to 8-10 knots.
In the gold fleet, after day 4 Jason HESS/Sonia PONCE (GUA) continue to lead followed by Mark MODDERMAN/Grace MODDERMAN (USA) in second and Greg THOMAS/Karen GRISKO (USA) in third.
In the silver fleet, Xander WESSELS/Kyler WESSELS (USA) lead followed by Brad DAVIS/Erik VOLT (USA) second and Joel HUTCHINGS/Kayla HUTCHINGS (USA) in third.
Day 5 and FINAL DAY
The final day of racing at the Hobie 16 North American championships started out breezy but following the pattern here, winds faded during the day. Three races were completed in 10-15 knots of breeze with varying pressure and oscillating winds. Managing the left-over waves from the strong winds overnight, staying in the breeze and the favored shift was the challenge of the day.
After 16 races over five days, in the gold fleet, Jason HESS/Sonia PONCE (GUA) are the North American champions followed by Yamil SABA/Andrea SABA (VEN) in second and Enrique FIGUEROA/Irene FIGUEROA (PUR) in third.
In the silver fleet, Miguel MILLET/Ciprano GONZALEX (MEX) win followed by Jose Daniel MAYORGA/Juan Carlos CANIZALEZ (GUA) in second and Bradley DAVIS/Erik VOLK (USA) in third
Next year’s event will be held in Clear Lake, Iowa.
