What are Joe and Simon up to this summer?
I caught up with Wildwind founder Simon Morgan and Joyrider TV celebrity cat man Joe Bennett this week and they let me know of their plans over the coming months.
Simon had just returned from the Wildwind base in Mauritius where there’s been some fabulous ‘Sail-aways’ north and south outside the lagoon and into the expanse of the Indian Ocean itself, often with long rolling waves that have travelled hundreds of miles and make for simply joyous conditions for Hobie joyriding at its best.
In a few weeks the wind-swept Wildwind base on the island kicks off its 36th summer season with an extraordinary team of instructors across both the cat and dinghy fleets in Vassiliki – over 70 boats from Oppy’s to 49er and Hobie Dragoon to Tigers and pretty much everything in between.
After 28 years of being the main man on the Wildwind Vassiliki beach Joe, still with his home and family in Vass, is ON THE MOVE!
From Saturday the 30th March Joe will be at Ocean Springs YC Mississippi USA, then for Saturday, Sunday and Monday there will be a special SPEED STICK LIVE event – whatever the wind is blowing ! Open to all club members and competitors of the Hobie 14 NAC and Midwinter’s East Regatta.
Then… from the 2nd April he’ll be sailing in the Hobie 14 North American Championships, that should be very good fun with over 20 boats registered already.
Following that, starting on the 5th April though to Sunday 7th is the Midwinder’s East Regatta in which Joe will be racing in the Hobie 16 class. That should be a great event with over 80 boats registered.

Whilst not at events, Joe will still be sailing from the Wildwind Beach in Vassiliki, which he still believe, offers the best sailing conditions for anyone who likes flat water and strong wind.
