Another Hobie 16 World Championships conclude and what a world championship it was. Club de Vela La Ballena Alegre was the perfect host for the Hobie sailing. Not only was everyone accommodated in the resort it gave the sailors the opportunity to meet and mingle all the time. There were some wonderful pool parties after the races that went to late at night then progressed down for beach parties.
It was the on-water racing that the sailors came for. 353 athletes from 22 countries competed. There were 60 races with 1,758 boats finishing races. That was a lot of racing for the sailors. It is also a very large sailing world championship.
More importantly, it was the social atmosphere that made these worlds. It started with the opening ceremony and with a Hobie 16 in the pool.
Finishing 15 days later with three new world champions and three new international cup champions. With old Hobie friends meeting up and new Hobie friendships expanding the Hobie family and friendship.
The big question everyone is asking is when and where will the 24th Hobie 16 World Championships. We are working on this and will be making an announcement as soon as we can.
