From June 15 to 17, 2024, the China Weihai HOBIE Open Regatta and HOBIE 16 Asian Championship were held at Weihai International Sea Water Bathing Beach. 33 fleets from Thailand, Beijing, Shanghai, Hainan, Hong Kong, and 16 other provinces, municipalities, and regions gathered in Weihai to compete for the laurels of this international sailing event.
The event was organised by the International HOBIE Class Association (IHCA), the Chinese Yachting Association, the Shandong Administration of Sports, and the Weihai Major Sports Events Organizing Committee. It was undertaken by the Weihai Municipal Sports Bureau and the Weihai Hi-tech Zone Management Committee. There were three divisions: Open Class, Masters Class, and a long-distance race.
After more than ten years of development since 2009, the influence of Weihai sailing events at home and abroad has continued to rise. 14 high-level sailing events have made Weihai an important stage for sailing in Asia.
