Wassenaar, The Netherlands – 24-25 August 2024
The prestigious “Dutch Open Hobie 14 Wassenaar Cup” took place this past weekend at the KZVW in Wassenaar, marking the 6th consecutive year of this exciting event. With 14 competitors participating, this year’s competition was fiercely contested under challenging conditions.
The weekend was characterized by rough seas, with high waves and winds ranging from 20-28 knots, putting even the most seasoned sailors to the test. These demanding conditions likely contributed to a slightly smaller field of participants compared to previous years, but the competition was no less intense.
The top three finishers demonstrated remarkable skill and tenacity:

1. Thorin Zeilmaker (NED) – The Dutch sailor navigated the tough conditions with expertise, claiming the top spot in this year’s competition expanding a great year with Thorin also winning the Hobie 14 Europeans.
2. Andre Hauschke (GER) – The German competitor showed impressive consistency and tactical acumen, securing the second position.
3. Henk de Boon (NED) – Another strong performance from a Dutch sailor, rounding out the podium in third place.
This year’s event once again highlighted the Dutch Open Hobie 14 Wassenaar Cup as a cornerstone in the European Hobie sailing calendar. Despite the challenging weather, the spirit of competition and camaraderie among the sailors was as strong as ever.
We would like to extend our gratitude to all the participants, especially our German competitors and our friends from Maastricht, whose presence added a wonderful international flavor to the event. Their dedication and sportsmanship truly embody the spirit of Hobie sailing.
Looking ahead to 2025, we are excited to welcome back these skilled sailors and hope to see an even larger fleet of Hobie 14s, both from the Netherlands and abroad. The KZVW remains committed to hosting an event that not only tests the limits of sailing skill but also fosters a sense of community and shared passion for the sport.
