Danish Hobie Cat 16 Championship 2018: Bjoernholt brothers still dominate the fleet.

333 Cup, the traditional summer event of Hobie Fleet 333, was held by Svendborg Sunds Sejlklub on June 9-10, and also doubled as national championship for Hobie 16. Fourteen boats turned up for the event, together with a small fleet of 5 A-cats who were invited after another club had canceled their event for the weekend. Despite tricky weather conditions with light, shifty winds, the race committee managed to get 9 races for hobie 16.

In the tricky conditions the favorites took the podium positions in both fleets. In Hobie 16, Daniel Bjoernholt (SSS) with crew Christina Schober won, closely followed by twin brother Nicolaj (SSS), who had his niece Naja Bjoernholt (Middelfart Sejlklub) as crew. Third was Peter Maahr and crew Olivia Berg Jakobsen, Egensedybet. The A-cat class was dominated by the Danish number one Thomas Paasch (Skovshoved Sejlklub), who won ahead of Lars Schroeder (Middelfart) and Tom Boejland (Skovshoved).

In addition to the prices for the class winners, the “333 Cup” trophy was awarded to the best boat sailing in the classic non-spi configuration. This was very close with only one point separating each of the three non-spi boats, it was won by Mathilde and Anders Graversen (Skovshoved).

In the true “Hobie Way of Life” spirit, the “Action Trophy” of Danish Hobie Class Association was awarded too. It was given to Danish Hobie-dealer Flemming Nilsson and crew Laila Froelich (Hornbaek Baadeklub). “Probably inspired by the foiling A-cats passing by, one of our most dynamic and musical crews developed a special whistle tone, simulating a foiling HC16. Whether it improved boat speed or mark room is still not quite known”, fleet veteran Erik Olsen explained about the nomination.
