This year the Nationals will be sailed at Somers Yacht Club. Somers is one of the most scenic towns along Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, a great spot for Hobie sailing, or for the non sailors in the family just to relax and enjoy the good life.
A holiday town on the bluffs overlooking the Western Passage to Western Port, Somers Beach is 3 km long, running between the eastern bluffs and rocks and the mouth of Merricks Creek. A foreshore reserve backs the entire beach. The beach faces south into the Western Passage of Western Port and receives mainly low, choppy wind waves and only rare ocean swell.
Hobie Camping
As with all great holiday destinations, accommodation in peak season is in high demand. Make sure you book your spot for the nationals as soon as you can to avoid disappointment.
If you lived it up at Hervey Bay, we have a special budget option available that is unique to Somers. There is a sailors camping ground that will be available only for Hobie sailors competing at the 2017 Nationals at Somers. The camping ground is on a local Hobie sailor’s 2 acre private property, approximately 400 metres from Somers Yacht Club. The cost for camping is on a one off $50 donation per person. Donations will be used to provide basic facilities, such as port-a-loos, covered barbecue area and fridges to store food etc. Hot showers will be available at the sailing club. Camping area has nice soft grass and there is plenty of room for tent sites, camper vans and caravans
